Myocarditis and cardiomyopathy after arbovirus infections (dengue and chikungunya fever).

چکیده
The varying clinicalfeatures and sequelae in Io patients sufferingfrom myocarditis after dengue and chikungunya fever caused by arboviruses are described. These patients had significantly raised antibody levels in the serum and gave a recent history of 'dengue-like' fever. Afew patients had afavourable outcome with disappearance of symptoms, improvement in the electrocardiogram, and no residual cardiomegaly. Others had persistent symptoms, electrocardiographic changes, and cardiomegaly which suggested a transition to cardiomyopathy, a chronic cardiac disorder. It seems likely that arbovirus infections play a significant role in the aetiology of the cardiomyopathies which are common in Ceylon.

Surveillance of deaths caused by arboviruses in Brazil: from dengue to chikungunya
Did death occur DUE TO dengue, or in a patient WITH dengue virus infection? It seems a matter of semantics, but in fact, it underscores how challenging it is to distinguish whether the disease contributed to death, or was itself the underlying cause of death. Can a death be attributed to chikungunya virus, when some deaths occur after the acute phase? Did the virus decompensate the underlying d...

Health Organization travel guidelines, a blood sample, taken 3 days after symptoms onset, was tested at the National Institute of Virology (Pune, India) for Ebola virus disease. This test used RT-PCR and real-time RT-PCR to detect Ebola virus nucleoprotein and polymerase genes and ruled out Ebola virus disease. These tests were repeated with standard positive and negative controls to ensure no ...

Sera collected in May 1984 from 132 adult residents of Karamoja district, Uganda, were examined by haemagglutination inhibition tests for antibodies against selected arboviruses, namely Chikungunya and Semliki Forest alphaviruses (Togaviridae); dengue type 2, Wesselsbron, West Nile, yellow fever and Zika flaviviruses (Flaviviridae); Bunyamwera, Ilesha and Tahyna bunyaviruses (Bunyaviridae); and...
متن کاملZika, chikungunya and dengue: the causes and threats of new and re-emerging arboviral diseases
The recent emergence and re-emergence of viral infections transmitted by vectors-Zika, chikungunya, dengue, Japanese encephalitis, West Nile, yellow fever and others-is a cause for international concern. Using as examples Zika, chikungunya and dengue, we summarise current knowledge on characteristics of the viruses and their transmission, clinical features, laboratory diagnosis, burden, history...
متن کاملCardiovascular involvement and manifestations of systemic Chikungunya virus infection: A systematic review
BACKGROUND In the last three years, chikungunya virus disease has been spreading, affecting particularly the Americas, producing more than two million cases. In this setting, not only new disease-related epidemiological patterns have been found, but also new clinical findings have been reported by different research groups. These include findings on the cardiovascular system, including clinical...
